FA1 Basic Life Support – Adults (3 hours)
A short programme of training designed for the lay person covering basic life support. It is designed for First Aiders dealing with adult patients. The programme includes dealing with the unconscious patient, CPR, bleeding, heart attacks and strokes. This is an ideal 'first' programme for anyone. It is also a useful l ‘annual refresher' for First Aiders who have already done longer courses.

A short programme of training designed for the lay person covering basic life support for all ages of patient. The programme covers dealing with the unconscious patient, the recovery position, CPR, choking, bleeding, heart attacks, strokes, the 'unwell' child. This is an ideal first course for everyone.

FA3 Emergency First Aid at Work – (formerly HSE Appointed person) 6 Hrs
This is the new course, replacing the previous ‘Appointed Person' designed for those working in a low risk environment. It covers the skills of basic life support for adult patients and some the more common illnesses.

FA4 Emergency First Aid – Paediatric (formerly HSE Appointed Person) 6 hrs
This course covers much of the syllabus for the Emergency First Aid at Work but is designed specifically for those working in a Paediatric environment. It will give students the essential skills for dealing with children and babies.

FA5 Emergency First Aid at Work Plus (12 hours)

FA7 First Aid for Sports (12 – 14 hours)
This course is designed to give the student a more comprehensive knowledge of First Aid procedures that that given in the shorter FA12 Pitch Side First Aid. It includes a range of common injuries and illnesses encountered in a sports environment. This course is popular choice for those people seeking a programme with relevance to sporting activities and a qualification recognised by many sports governing bodies. It covers basic life support, unconsciousness, fractures, dislocations, head injuries, hot and cold injuries and return to play.

FA8 First Aid for Snowsports (14 hours)
This course is designed for those working in the snowsports or mountaineering industry and those who spend recreational time in the outdoors. The course includes the content of the HSE Emergency First Aider at Work plus the pre-existing and environmentally induced conditions leaders may have to deal with in remote situations. This course is accepted by SSE, BASI, BCU, RYA, MLT etc.

FA8a First Aid for the Outdoors (14 hours)

FA9 Emergency First Aid for the Construction Industry (12 hrs)
This course is designed to give students a more comprehensive knowledge of First Aid procedures than given in the Emergency First Aid at Work course. It includes dealing with falls from height, crush and constriction injuries, suspension and head injuries, blows, burns, poisoning etc.

FA10 HSE First Aid at Work (18 hours)
This new 18 hr course has replaced the previous 24hr courses. It is designed to meet all of the recommendations the Health and Safety Executive. It is designed for those working in high risk environments or for those with overall responsibility for First Aid in organisations. Selection of candidates to attend this course should be based upon:
»Reliability, disposition and communication skills;
»Aptitude & ability to absorb new knowledge & learn new skills;
»Ability to deal with an emergency situations in a calm and controlled manner;
»Normal duties: These should be such that the first aider may be able to leave his normal duties immediately to provide emergency care to an ill or injured worker;
The programme includes the skills and knowledge required to provide immediate life support to a casualty in the workplace. Emphasis is placed upon confidence and competence developed through hands on practice. The course is externally assessed.

FA11 Approved First Aid at Work Re-qualification Course (2 days)
A Health & Safety Executive approved two-day course that meets the current Health & Safety (First Aid) Regulations 1981. The course is delivered in accordance with the Approved Code of Practice L74 for re-qualifying First Aid personnel in the workplace.
Candidates must hold a current First Aid at Work certificate on the first day of the course. The course instructor will need a copy of the certificate at the beginning of the course to validate all participating students. The previous certificate can be one issued by any HSE approved and licensed First Aid at Work provider.

FA11a Annual Refresher Course (3 hours)
This new course is designed to combat ‘skill fade' which inevitably takes place between full First Aid courses. It does not replace the three yearly requalification course for First Aid at Work. It is also a useful course for anyone wishing to gain simple life support skills such as dealing with unconsciousness and administering CPR.

FA12 Pitch Side First Aid (6 hours)
This one day course is designed for anyone involved in sport teachers, players, officials, coaches, instructors, spectators etc. The programme includes:
»The treatment and priorities of care for an unconscious patient;
»The recognition of cardiac arrest and delivery of cardio-pulmonary resuscitation (CPR);
»The ability to safely and promptly treat a patient who is bleeding;
»The recognition and treatment of shock;
»The recognition, signs and treatment for a range of common illnesses (heart attack, asthma, diabetes, anaphylaxis and seizures);
»The treatment and care for an injured patient (fractures, dislocations, strains, sprains, heat/cold exposure);
»Management of head injuries;
»The keeping of simple records following an accident ;

FA13 Emergency First Aid (Appointed Persons) Equine Industry (6 hours)
This one day course is designed for anyone involved with horses – stable staff, riders, instructors, trainers etc. The programme covers basic life support, head injuries, falls, fractures, crush injuries, neck & back injuries. The course meets the recommendations of the Health & Safety (First Aid) Regulations 1981 issued by the Health & Safety Executive. It is delivered in accordance with the Approved Code of Practice L74 for training of candidates in first aid employed within the equine industry.

FA13a First Aid for the Equine Industry (16hrs)
This programme of training specifically relates to those working in the equine industry. While the nature of injuries and illnesses is similar in most industries this course relates them specifically to the world of horses. In some cases the management of medical conditions may be different because of protective clothing worn by riders and the general situation. The course is thus ideal for establishment managers, instructors, event staff, riders in general, parents and the general public.

The programme is particularly relevant to First Aiders working in the chemical, pharmaceutical or sheet metal industries where there is a likelihood of cyanide poisoning and where profession help may not be immediately to hand.

FA17 Automatic External Defibrillator Training (4 or 6 hours)
Two versions of this popular course are available. The shorter course is designed for those with a First Aid qualification obtained within the previous three months and the longer version for those outside this period when CPR will be refreshed. Student numbers are limited to enable maximum hands on practice with a variety of different units.
